General information

Short Summary
Award winning Swiss startup offers solution to maximise the safe operational life of civil infrastructure. It combines intelligent algorithms with cost-efficient sensors to translate vibrations generated by wind or traffic into key structural condition metrics for maintenance planning. The startup is looking for commercial agreement with technical assistance or R&D cooperation agreement with infrastructure owners, monitoring providers, and engineer consultants.
Full Description
In the face of ageing infrastructures, needs for maintenance increase dramatically. The global rate of deterioration exceeds the rate of repair and infrastructure owners are challenged to reduce the cost of maintenance activities without compromising safety and environmental impacts.
The Swiss startup develops a solution to maximise the safe operational life of civil infrastructure. It monitors the vibration of these assets with tailored and cost-efficient sensors. The sensors can be attached to existing infrastructure such as bridges or buildings. Its software translates this data into key structural health metrics to enable infrastructure owners to understand the health status of their assets in real-time and at portfolio level. This allows to optimise maintenance budgets and planning, reduce downtime and risks, and maintain a real-time overview of asset performance.
This technology is built on very exclusive know-how and algorithms developed during the four PhDs of the co-founders. The offered sensors are tailored to the dynamic characteristics of the monitored asset, unlocking an unprecedented cost-efficiency.
The solution has been successfully deployed across a wide range of buildings and bridges, and the startup collaborates with public and private entities.
The company is looking for commercial agreements with technical assistance with public and private infrastructure owners that are looking to improve maintenance planning and activities, increase the resilience of their assets, and reduce their carbon footprint. The company also aims to build strategic collaborations with monitoring providers and engineer consultants. Finally, it is eager to engage in R&D cooperation agreements by providing hardware and data to support research on related topics.
Advantages and Innovations
The current state of practice for the assessment of the conditions of infrastructures relies almost exclusively on visual inspections and simulations for behavior predictions. Visual inspections provide subjective and inconclusive data as they only evaluate the visible and accessible parts of structures. The lack of better data in the modelling process leads to inefficient decision-making and outcomes, such as insufficient or overly excessive retrofitting.
The startup provides a holistic solution for data-based decision making in the maintenance of civil infrastructure. The solution includes:
- Data-driven information system for maintenance decisions
- Cost-efficient sensors (significantly less expensive compared to commercially available alternatives)
- Real-time data and notifications
- Traffic loads
- Installation without operational interruptions
- Portfolio prioritization
- Predictive maintenance tools

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
The specific area of activity of the partner:
Infrastructure owner, maintenance manager, monitoring provider, engineer consultant. The partner should be engaged with maintenance planning, structural assessment or monitoring of existing infrastructure and buildings.

The tasks to be performed by the partner sought:
Infrastructure Owner / Maintenance Manager:
Provide access to infrastructure. Depending on the asset to be monitored, electricity and network connections may be required.

Monitoring Provider:
Overtake the installation of our hardware on the asset.
