Hydrogen – the energy source for tomorrow and today

BATARYASAN

With BATARYASAN being a company that designs and manufactures battery-based technologies with hydrogen-based industries, a high level of funding is required to be sustainable.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Kaya of Erciyes University, Turkey, is an eminent researcher in the field of hydrogen and energy conversion systems. Totally committed to the greening of energy and decarbonisation of energy production, he manages the Erciyes University H2FC Hydrogen Energy Research Group, which consists of over 14 dedicated members. Additionally, he oversees the VoltaCAR electric-hydrogen car project with a team of more than 40 members.

He is also the co-founder of BATARYASAN, a versatile company specialising in the design, research, and development of energy conversion and storage system components. Their expertise includes engineering simulations, original material characterisation and product development studies to cater to diverse industry needs.

Emre Altuntas, expert business adviser with the Enterprise Europe Network, told us how the path to success for BATARYASAN developed: "Dr. Kaya is a well-known figure in the hydrogen research world and is extremely hard-working and high-profile." Emre continues: "With BATARYASAN being a company that designs and manufactures battery-based technologies with hydrogen-based industries, a high level of funding is required to be sustainable."

As a first step, BATARYASAN was accepted as an incubator company in October 2020 in Erciyes Teknopark.

Benefits of being an incubator company

The incubator status comes with advantages aimed at fostering scientific innovation. These include office rent benefits, personal fee discounts, tax-free status and customs-free discounts. Additionally, BATARYASAN enjoys the privilege of accessing Erciyes Teknopark’s support, which is especially beneficial for their two hydrogen-related projects.

In addition, with official entrepreneur status, they were supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Support Administration (KOSGEB) entrepreneurship research and development funding.

Network support during those difficult formative years

Once incorporated into the Network profile, BATARYASAN gained access to financial resources for sustainable development. This support ensured the company’s motivation remained high during its challenging formative years.
