ESTONIA
Radius Machining, an Estonian family business, is a key player in the country’s manufacturing scene. Starting in a small Viimsi garage in 2003, the company’s rapid growth led to a new factory in Peetri by 2016 and the formal establishment of the Radius Group in 2020.
Driven by high demand for precision manufacturing, Radius quickly expanded, forming strategic partnerships, particularly in Germany.
Now celebrating 19 years, Radius Machining exports over 40 % of its products to Scandinavia and the DACH region. Specialising in the computerised operation of machining tools used in manufacturing and hydraulics, the company produces hydraulic hoses, pipe sets, and components, with a strong focus on quality and efficient production.
Eva Laanemäe, DACH regional manager at Radius, credits the Enterprise Europe Network with playing a crucial role in their expansion, recommending their support and collaboration to any company seeking to expand its market presence abroad.
In the case of Radius, a significant breakthrough came when the company participated in the Baltic Sea Consultancy Days in February 2023. During the event, they connected with Stäubli Hamburg GmbH, a Swiss industrial and mechatronic solution provider seeking new suppliers of stainless steel and brass metal parts.
Radius’ long-standing membership with the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry facilitated this partnership under the support of the Enterprise Europe Network.
"We are very familiar with Radius and their products," noted Lea Aasamaa, counsellor and Network coordinator. "When Stäubli expressed interest in finding a reliable supplier, we immediately thought of Radius. The companies quickly established contact, signed the non-disclosure agreement, and began cooperation in May 2023."
Customer satisfaction drives success
Laanemäe is optimistic about the company’s future. “While the past few years have required us to be more reactive, we’ve managed to maintain customer satisfaction and growth, particularly in Germany, where the market continues to need our services.”
Looking ahead, Laanemäe sees significant growth potential in three Central European countries – Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. "We have ideas about where we want to be, but since 2020, we’ve had to react more to change than to plan it. Thankfully, we are doing well, and our customers are happy with us."
The past few years brought challenges, from COVID-19 to the economic downturn, but Radius adapted. "Flexibility has been key," said Laanemäe.
"The best way to gain recognition is through partnerships with German companies. When they say, 'I have an Estonian service provider, and they’ve been reliable,' it makes a big difference," added Laanemäe.
She also noted the company’s commitment to expanding its European collaborations and strengthening its manufacturing capabilities. She said Radius’ end goal is to continue growing, widening its scope, and strengthening European collaboration, especially in manufacturing.
